Improv Jam Trailer

Last December I took part in an interesting video shoot; 3 of Seattle’s leading jazz musicians jamming with upcoming blues and rap musicians. We had upwards of NINE cameras running and the shoot was a bit of a free-for-all, not unlike the improvised music. As a musician myself, I found the interaction between the old-school jazz masters and the younger musicians to be quite interesting.

Here is the final project:

Performers:
Michael Brockman, Clarence Acox and Phil Sparks of the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra (srjo.org)
Ayron Jones of AJ and the Way (ajandtheway.com)
Turtle T. (whatsupturtle.com) with a special guest star appearance from RA Scion (rascion.com)

The Crew:
Producer/Director: Ron Dawson, Dare Dreamer Media (daredreamer.net)
Co-Producer/Audio/Camera: Brian Russell, Willow Craft Media (willowcraftmedia.com)
Camera and Lighting: Stuart Ferrier, Blue Fern Productions (bluefernproductions.com)
Camera: Sarah Ferrier, Blue Fern Productions
Camera: David Patterson (pixelstogo.com)
Camera: April Johnson
Audio Mixer: Blaine Rochester

let there be music

As a former musician, I enjoy producing videos that highlight music. In addition to the Fretboard Journal live music broadcasts, and Seattle Improv Jam video I helped shoot, here  are a few that I have created for Seattle area musicians.

A recent video I shot and edited for Seattle band, The Fabulous Roof Shakers.

An old video shot at the 2013 Seattle Folk Life Festival. Pardon the lame audio; recorded with my camera’s crappy built-in microphones!

Fretboard Journal live broadcasts

Every now and then I have the pleasure of shooting live broadcasts for the Fretboard Journal Magazine‘s website. Although the broadcasts are produced under less than ideal conditions (tiny room, minimal audio support, available lighting), I thoroughly enjoy being in the presence of so many world class musicians.

Past broadcasts I shot include Tommy Emmanuel & John KnowlesRodney Crowell, Blake Mills, John Pizarelli & Bill Frisell, Milk Carton Kids, and most recently Nels Cline & Julian Lage. I have also shot video for Fretboard Journal at the Wintergrass Bluegrass Festival.
